My name is Gideon Mayhak.

You can view my current resume here.

I was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, on July 1, 1987. I lived there for most of my life, save a few winters in my teens when I lived in Florida. I lived in Rapids for the first 10 years of my adult life, going to school at Mid-State Technical College for 3 years and working at Renaissance Learning for nearly 8, before getting married to Sarah Taylor and moving to Harrisonburg, VA, the summer of 2016.

I enjoy playing around with computers, though some of the thrill is gone in recent years. My remaining passion lies mostly in Linux-based operating systems (such as CentOS, which this wiki runs on) and Free Software. I like the idea of using software developed by a community that is freely available to all.

I love music, and I play bass guitar (currently this one). My wife and I enjoy music together.

I attended Calvary Baptist Church while I lived in Wisconsin, serving in the video ministry. I currently attend Faith Community Church in Harrisonburg, playing bass in the worship team.

I began working in the IT Training department at JMU on November 28, 2016.

(I go by "gnafu" on freenode, and you may see me on various forums as "gnafuthegreat" or "Gnafu the Great".)

Current Thoughts

We must not allow tradition, personal experience, or feelings to get in the way of what is right. It is not a question of whether or not love will win; it has already won. It is a question of whether we will be on love's side. We must not participate in the hatred of our traditions, our personal biases, or our imperfect feelings. We must triumph in love. No nation can claim to be God's except those that follow God. I belong to no nation; I belong to God. I take comfort in knowing that the schemes of men will fail, but the love of God remains forever.

Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law. - Psalm 119:18, WEB
